General Information

Ralph Brown Draughon Library (RBD) is the main library on campus and serves the students and faculty of the School of Communication and Journalism. It offers:

  • Group and individual study rooms [Use D!bs to check availability]
  • Quiet study on the 4th floor; quiet room on 2nd floor
  • The AU Bookstore Study Essentials (2nd) for snacks, drinks, and supplies
  • Snack machines are on the 1st floor and in the Mell Classroom Building
  • Panera Bread on 2nd floor

Library Hours

During fall and spring semesters, RBD library is open 24 hours a day from Sunday at 1 pm to Friday at 9 pm. Saturday hours are normally 9 am to 9 pm but are subject to change on home football game weekends.

Reference Assistance

The RBD Help Desk is located on the 2nd floor of RBD and is staffed most Mondays through Thursdays from 8am to midnight by librarians and/or graduate assistants; Fridays is 8am through 6pm. Weekends the desk is staffed 9am to 6pm on Saturdays, and 1pm through midnight on Sundays.

You may also request help through the Ask a Librarian service, http://askalibrarian.auburn.edu/. Chat, email, text, and phone assistance are available during help desk hours.

Innovations & Research Commons (I&RC)

The Innovation & Research Commons (I&RC) is a new facility on the 1st floor of RBD Library. It provides access to high-end tools, technologies, and in-person expertise to support innovative research and teaching at Auburn. Not only does it provides access to high-end tools, technologies, and in-person expertise to support innovative research and teaching at Auburn, it also offers equipment and software for creating and printing course-related posters, digital video/audio projects, CDs, and DVDs. Their friendly staff is always on hand to answer questions or help you use new software or equipment.

Faculty, Staff, and Graduate Students

Item Limit: 150 items for faculty; 100 items for staff and graduate students
Loan Periods: 180 days for regular checkouts; 1 day for bound journal checkouts
Renewal Limit: 3  times prior to the due date
Overdue fines/fees: journals, recalled items, reserve items, headphones, wireless computers, power cords, special permission checkouts
Database Access: yes
Document Delivery Privileges: yes

Undergraduate Students

Item Limit: 50
Loan Periods: 28 days for regular checkouts; ineligible for journal checkouts
Renewal Limit: 3  times prior to the due date
Overdue fines/fees: journals, recalled items, reserve items, headphones, wireless computers, power cords, special permission checkouts
Database Access: yes
Document Delivery Privileges: yes

Interlibrary Loan & Document Delivery

AUBIExpress is a service for graduate students, faculty, and staff. This service delivers AU Libraries' print articles and book chapters directly to your desktop. AU libraries offers a courier service that delivers print materials to your office or to other Libraries on campus. To request a delivery, go to www.lib.auburn.edu/jcourier.

Alabama Libraries Exchange Service (ALLIES) is a reciprocal loan service between select Alabama Libraries. For instance, if UAB has a book that we don't, you would be able to have it delivered to Auburn. For a list of libraries and more information, visit www.lib.auburn.edu/allies.
