The U.S. Government uses a set of Codes to classify similar companies and organizations into industries in order to gather and analyze data. NAICS (North American Industrial Classification System) is the current system used by the U.S. Government. An older classification system was the SIC (Standard Industrical Classification) System. A lot of our databases include the NAICS or SIC Codes for the company, so you can find out the industries that the company does business in.
Industry reports are created by market research firms, investment analysts, and some government agencies. These are usually lengthy reports, focused on one industry, and updated regularly.
With the following databases, you can use the NAICS Code to create a list of competitors in an industry. Some allow you to narrow that list by other criteria, such as geography, sales, private/public ownership, etc.
