There are many ways you can add references to Mendeley, including:
The video below will give an introduction into importing documents into your Mendeley library.
Using the desktop version of Mendeley, click the "Add" icon in the top left corner of Mendeley. The icon looks like a piece of paper and a + symbol with the word "Add" underneath.
Click the dropdown arrow next to the Add icon, then choose either "Add Files" or "Add Folder." Once you select the items you want to add to your library, Mendeley will import the citation information from the PDF file and attach the PDF to the record. Be sure to check the citation information to make sure it is complete and correct.
You can also drag and drop your files or folder directly into your library. To do so, navigate to the folder where you want to add the items, then drag and drop them. Mendeley will automatically import citation information and attach the PDF.

Add the Web Importer from this page, https://www.mendeley.com/import/
Save to Mendeley should appear in your browser toolbar
The web importer works with most AU databases and on the open web.
After locating a reference you wish to save to Mendeley, click on save to Mendeley and a save box opens.
Notice that you can use the drop down arrow to add the reference to a specific Mendeley folder, and that
you can add tags or notes before saving.
After saving, you have the option to Open in Mendeley which syncs the web version with the desktop version.
If you choose not to Open in Mendely at that point, you need to be sure and sync your desktop version the next time you open it.
If a database allows you to export citations as an RIS file, save the file (noting the name and where it is on your computer).
Open Mendeley desktop and choose File, Import, and then RIS.
Navigate to where the file is saved and open it.
Mendeley will import the references into the folder currently open in Mendeley.
