The Library of Congress Classification system is the organization system used by most research and academic libraries in the United States. In this system, books are organized using a combination of letters and numbers, based on subject matter. Each book in the library has its own unique combination of letters and numbers, known as its call number.
In LCC, subjects are called "classes."
