WILD 5290: Google Scholar

About Google Scholar

Google Scholar enables you to search for a wide variety of authoritative information sources, including:

  • peer-reviewed journal articles
  • government reports
  • white papers and media releases
  • conference proceedings and academic/business presentations
  • theses, preprint manuscripts, and archival materials

Google Scholar does not discriminate between peer reviewed and non peer reviewed content, so it is up to you to systematically and critically evaluate the materials you find. For the purposes of this assignment, you must limit your source types to peer-reviewed journal articles.

Advanced Google Scholar Searching

Google Scholar Advanced search supports Boolean and phrase searching (see tab at right), and enables you to limit results (by author, journal, publication date, etc). When accessing Google Scholar from off campus, AU students should follow these basic steps to set up off campus access.

You can access Advanced Google Scholar on the left side of the main search page.

This example demonstrates a search for "black bear" AND Alabama published in the journal Conservation Biology between 2018 and 2023.
