Getting Started

Use your LibGuide account to log into LibAnswers!

Here are some things you can do with LibAnswers:

  • To see if there are any questions in the queue (SMS, E-mail, or from our LibAnswers form), go to the DASHBOARD
  • To enter a stat, go to REF. ANALYTICS --> Add a Transaction
  • To log into LibChat, go to LIBCHAT --> Connect  (you can see what the patron will see by going to http://askalibrarian.auburn.edu/)
  • To view already answered questions (public and private), go to REF. ANALYTICS --> View/Edit Transactions
  • To see questions that are part of the knowledge base, and therefore searchable, go to ANSWERS -->Public Answers
  • To look at statistics for answered questions, go to REF. ANALYTICS --> Statistics.  From there, you can use the tabs further down the page to see statistics by date/time, analyze metadata (READ scale info, Question Type, Contact Point, Time Spent, etc.), and user stats. For other statistics, go to the STATS tab or for LibChat stats, LIBCHAT --> Statistics
  • To see questions that have been searched for by users, but not submitted, go to STATS --> Query Spy
  • Check out the Copyable-Boxes page of this guide for boxes you can reuse on your own LibGuides!

Common Stumbling Blocks

Here are some tutorials that will show you how to better use LibAnswers:

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need to add a signature at the bottom of my e-mail responses?

  • No, just sign your name.  There is a default signature that's added to all e-mail questions with the ref desk's e-mail and phone number and  the library's address. Though it does not appear when you're writing your response, the patron will see it in the e-mail they recieve.

How can I make the chat box in LibChat bigger?

  • Click on one of the top corners of the chat box and drag it.  Click carefully, because if you don't click in just the right spot, you may end up moving the window instead of making it larger.
