Although some sources may provide full text of research instruments, others may only provide a review or information about a study which used the research instrument. If you have found a specific instrument and need to find full text, try the following:
Search Google or some other search engine with the specific instrument name. Note that some instruments must be purchased, Google may lead you to a site on which you may pay for the instrument.
You can also try searching Google Images with the name of the instrument. Just be aware that even if an image of the instrument shows up, you need to check that there are no copyright restrictions.
Mental Measurements Yearbook
Mental Measurements Yearbook provides reviews of instruments but will also provide contact information for the author and/or publisher.
In PsycINFO you can use the following search to find full text:
TM Appended AND title of research instrument, for example:
TM Appended AND mini mental state examination
In CINAHL, try using the Research Instrument limits available under 'Publication Type' (located on the search page under Limit Your Results) with the instrument name in the search box Provides information about Nursing specific research instruments.
It is important to realize that research instruments are copyrighted. Even if an instrument is available full text in a published source, you must obtain permission from the author to use the instrument in a research project unless the source states that the instrument is free for use by researchers.
