Women’s Studies Events for spring 2012
January

Two screenings, both in the Langdon Hall auditorium:
Thursday 12 January @ 2 p.m.
Wednesday 18 January @ 4 p.m.
A panel discussion will follow the second screening, to begin c. 5:30 p.m.
Co-sponsored with the Women's Leadership Institute, the College of Education, and the Student Counseling Center.
February
Monday 6 February @ 4:00 p.m., location TBA:
Lecture, “Haitian Women in the Dominican Republic,” by Dr. Jennifer Shoaff, Dept. of Gender and Race Studies, University of Alabama--Tuscaloosa.
Monday 20 February @ 4:30 p.m. in the AUHCC
Research Culture Lecture by Dr. Kristina Straub, Professor of Literary and Cultural Studies, Carnegie Mellon University.
Co-sponsored with English and the Stevens Fund.
March
Wednesday 21 March @ 11: 45 a.m. in the Student Center:
Annual Women’s Studies Awards Luncheon.
Keynote speaker: Rebecca Traister, contributor to Salon.com and author of Big Girls Don't Cry.
A call for nominations for Women’s Studies faculty, student, and community service awards will come out soon.
April
Wednesday 11 April @ 12 noon, location TBA: Brown Bag Lecture by Dr. Arianne Gaetano, Anthropology and Women’s Studies
Both Dr. Anna Riehl Bertolet, English, and Dr. Angela Ware, Sociology and Women’s Studies, will also present Brown Bag Lectures in spring 2012, details TBA.
The Women’s Studies Program is also planning on hosting its annual Graduate Student Research Symposium this spring. Please tell your students, both graduate and undergraduate (the symposium is open to both), about this opportunity to share their research. Details will be forthcoming.
