What is a Research Guide?

Librarians create discipline-specific research guides that serve as resources for students as they work on assignments. You can embed full or partial guides into your Canvas courses so students have convenient access to them.

How to Embed Research Guide Content (4 Steps)

Step 1

Create a module in your Canvas course
Choose External Tool
Choose Library Resources Manual (you can edit the name later)
Click Add Item

Step 2

Open Library Resources Manual
Select Subject Guides – libguides.auburn.edu

Step 3

You next have a choice to add Guides & Guide Content and A-Z Databases.
Under Guides & Guide Content, choose between Full Guide, Single Page, or Content Box. If you’re unsure which to add, spend some time browsing through the research guides. You may decide to embed an entire guide, or that you want students to focus on a single page, for example one that lists magazines and journals for a specific discipline.
Likewise, you may want to embed the databases for your discipline.

Example

In this example, the Journals page from the Theatre guide has been chosen.

Step 4

You’ll be returned to your course page. At this point you can edit the name of the item. This is important if you decide you want to embed other guide content into the same module.
Click "View Content" to see the guide content that you added.
