The Metrics Toolkit provides evidence-based information about research metrics across disciplines, including how each metric is calculated, where you can find it, and how each should (and should not) be applied. You’ll also find examples of how to use metrics in grant applications, CVs, and promotion dossiers.

Google Scholar
PLoS Article Level-Metrics (ALMS)
Article-Level Metrics are available, upon publication, for every article published by PLOS. Researchers can stay up-to-date with their published work and share information about the impact of their publications with collaborators, funders, institutions, and the research community at large.
Publish or Perish
Publish or Perish is a software program that retrieves and analyzes academic citations. It uses Google Scholar and Microsoft Academic Search to obtain the raw citations, then analyzes these and presents results.
Scopus
Scopus tracking and measuring tools include: Journal Analyzer, Author Evaluator, Affiliations, H-Index, Citation Details
Web of Science
Web of Science tools to track research are: Citation Report, Citing Articles Report, Cited References, ResearchID, ORCID, H-Index

Science of Science (Sci2) Network Vis Tool
A modular toolset specifically designed for the study of science. It supports the temporal, geospatial, topical, and network analysis and visualization of scholarly datasets at the micro (individual), meso (local), and macro (global) levels. For the Sci2 manual, please see this link.
Gephi
An interactive visualization and exploration platform for all kinds of networks and complex systems, dynamic and hierarchical graphs. Works in synergy with Sci2 for complex analyses.
D3.js
D3.js (Data-Driven Documents) is a JavaScript library that allows you to create and control dynamic and interactive graphs in a modern web browser. It makes use of common web standards such as SVG, HTML5, CSS and JavaScript for data visualization.
VOSviewer
VOSviewer is a free application that can be used to create, view and explore maps based on network data. VOSviewer is primarily intended to be used for analyzing bibliometric networks. The program can for instance be used to create maps of publications, authors, or journals based on a co-citation network or to create maps of keywords based on a co-occurrence network.
Rimpact
Rimpact is an example of how you can write custom code to parse and analyze bibliographic records and generate visualization graphs for research impact. Rimpact was written in the Ruby programming language, but the concept can be applied to any programming language you are familiar with.

Becker Medical Library Model for Assessment of Research Impact
The Becker Medical Library Model for Assessment of Research Impact model is a framework for tracking diffusion of research outputs and activities to locate indicators that demonstrate evidence of biomedical research impact. It is intended to be used as a supplement to publication analysis. Using the Becker Model in tandem with publication analysis provides a more robust and comprehensive perspective of biomedical research impact. The Becker Model also includes guidance for quantifying and documenting research impact as well as resources for locating evidence of impact.
