Sustainability: Sustainability Studies

The AU Sustainability Office embraces the United Nations definition of sustainability: meeting the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs.

What is Sustainability?

In 1987 the Brundtland Commission of the United Nations defined sustainable development as "development that meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs." --Our Common Future

Sustainability Minor

"The sustainability revolution is nothing less than a rethinking and remaking of our role in the natural world. It is a recalibration of human intentions to coincide with the way the biophysical world works."
--David Orr, preface, The Sustainability Revolution: Portrait of a Paradigm Shift
