REMOVING DVD SECURITY DEVICES

  • DVD's have a 7-day check-out period
  • If you have not used this device, grab a DVD and try it for yourself so you can look good in front of patrons with your know-how!
Red DVD security devices are used to prevent the theft of DVDs from the LADC and need to be removed before leaving the library.  
 
Pictured right are the two magnets used to remove the red security devices found within DVD cases. Both magnets are secured to the desk and cannot be removed.
Step 1 Place the open DVD case over the round magnet on the left. You will feel the red-tabbed security device be strongly drawn to the magnet.
Step 2 Use the tool on the right to sandwich the red security device between the two magnets. You will feel an even stronger increase in magnetism when the wand is placed above the security device. 
Step 3 The pull of the two magnets moves a spring inside of the red security device allowing you to lift the red cap from its base using your fingernail. 
 
Keep the red cap of the security device in the circulation drawer and reattach the security cap when the DVD is returned.
