LADC Student Employees Guide

This website is intended to provide information regarding the various tasks, duties, and functions performed by student workers at the LADC.

1. DO NOT FORGOT TO CLOCK IN AND OUT FOR YOUR SHIFTS.
Make certain you click "Record Timestamp" in Kronos and NOT the Transfer tab.
2. RECORD EVERY CONVERSATION AND INTERACTION IN LIBANSWERS
This is to prove to Auburn Administration why the library and our positions are necessary and of use.
3. ALWAYS HAVE AN EMPLOYEE AT THE DESK.
If you are shelf-reading, have a task, taking a break, or must leave the desk for another reason, ask someone to cover the desk while you are away. LET SOMEONE KNOW IF AND WHY YOU ARE LEAVING THE DESK.
4. NO NON-EMPLOYEES BEHIND THE CIRCULATION DESK
We, as hired employees, represent Auburn University Libraries whereas non-employees do not.
5. LIMIT NON-WORK CONVERSATIONS
Keep non-work conversations with friends to less than 15 minutes. We cannot let lone patrons monopolize your attention while you are at work.
5. BE PRESENT AND ATTENTIVE AT THE DESK.
Never wear both headphones/earbuds at work!  Keep personal entertainment to a minimum and only be on personal devices if all work has been completed. (including cleaning, wipe-downs of equipment, searching for overdue and lost items, completing LADC projects, regularly checking the drops, shelf-reading, etc.)
6. SHELF-READ 30 MINUTES PER PERSON PER SHIFT
This keeps books organized and accessible.
7. BE MINDFUL OF THE PATRON-FACING SCREEN
Remember:  If a patron would like to see the information on your screen and they agree for you to turn on the patron-facing screen, make sure to turn the screen off afterward to protect private patron information.
8. STAY IN THE LOOP AND CHECK EMAILS AND #GroupMe DAILY.
Communication is the key to a healthy work environment.
